websites

Silicon Rockstar websites run uniformly across different operating systems and browsers. Before being put into production, our sites are tested in the most recent versions of Microsoft's Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, and Apple's Safari, as well as on various versions of Windows, Mac O/S, and Linux. SR sites are also coded to W3C validation standards using XHTML and CSS to create search-engine-friendly sites with extremely lean code-to-content ratios. All of this ensures that your site looks professional, works well independent of what technology your visitors are using, and generates maximum ROI.

W3global.com - XHTML/CSS build, Javascript, PHP form-to-email, Blogger hack
w3global website screen shot
Design: Tom Vincent for w3global
XHTML/CSS, Javascript, PHP, Blog: SiliconRockstar

XHTML/CSS site build for a third party design. The design is extremely image-heavy and at the time image transparency was not yet fully supported across browsers. Therefore, the build required a lot of time spent slicing and optimizing images to get the final product pixel-perfect. Because the site uses a background image, I also applied some absolute positioning as well as a horizontal image tiling trick to make the background image 'stretch' continuously across widescreen monitors.

The blog is actually a Blogger account with the presentation layer modified to be indistinguishable from the rest of the pages of the site. This allows w3global to leverage the myraid of 'plug-and-play' Blogger widgets as well as Google's security and user management without having to host their own content management system. Other features include Javascript tabs, multiple PHP-to-email forms, and social media integration.

Portfolio section features a custom user interface produced by a combination of SR's technical expertise and Raretype's design sense.

The Narrow Barrow is an innovative garden tool. All design and content for the site was generated based on a small amount of existing marketing collateral: The Narrow Barrow had a low-resolution .pdf brochure, a sell sheet, and a short video. The Narrow Barrow features streaming Flash video and social media integration. The video is embedded and streamed from a YouTube account to save bandwidth usage. The site was build in only four days so that it would be completed before The Narrow Barrow was to be featured in various national advertisements.

Antonini Outdoor is a luxury outdoor furniture line that is hand-made in Italy. The site was generated based on a small amount of existing marketing collateral: Antonini Outdoor had a catalog, a few images, and a brochure. Most of the content had been written by native Italian speakers and required extensive proofing/re-writing. Almost all design, copy, and development on the site was done by SR. AntoniniOutdoor.com features multi-tiered navigation and Flash animation with a PHP form-to-email form. The site uses a classic, minimalist design aesthetic that is in line with their luxury brand positioning and that will match well with Antonini's current and future print collateral.
